The 30-second summary
- Choose Pipedrive if you need an efficient sales CRM: visual pipeline, follow-ups, forecasting, for a sales team that wants a simple tool they can adopt in days, at a predictable price (EUR 14 to 79 per user per month depending on the plan).
- Choose HubSpot if you are building an integrated marketing + sales engine: lead generation, nurturing, CRM, and customer service on a single platform, accepting a cost that rises fast (the Professional plan runs roughly EUR 90-100 per user per month).
- Choose neither if your priority is invoicing and French-style business management (quotes, VAT, mandatory e-invoicing 2026): an Axonaut or Sellsy will serve you better, or a custom-built tool if your process falls outside standard workflows.
This analysis is based on both vendors' public features and pricing, verified in July 2026, with no favoritism: neither is "better in every case."

Real pricing, no surprises
Public pricing in annual billing, per user per month, verified July 2026. Monthly pay-as-you-go prices are significantly higher.
Pipedrive: Lite ~EUR 14, Growth ~EUR 39, Premium ~EUR 59, Ultimate ~EUR 79. The pricing grid is linear and predictable: for 5 reps on the Growth plan, expect roughly EUR 195 excl. tax per month. Extensions (LeadBooster, web visitors) are optional add-ons.
HubSpot: Smart CRM free, Sales Starter ~EUR 20, Sales Professional ~EUR 90-100, Enterprise ~EUR 150. Two classic traps to anticipate:
- The Starter-to-Professional cliff. This is where HubSpot becomes powerful (advanced automations, sequences, serious forecasting) and 4 to 5 times more expensive per seat, with mandatory paid onboarding. Good to know: going through a certified partner lets you avoid it.
- The platform effect. A real HubSpot project often combines Sales + Marketing Hub: you should budget at the platform level, not for the CRM alone. It is an excellent investment when fully exploited, and a money pit when you only use 20% of its value.
Our simple rule: budget over 3 years, with a realistic seat count, including the likely tier upgrade. Never at the entry price. Our guide how much does a CRM cost for an SMB details the method.
Simplicity versus platform
Pipedrive was built by salespeople, and it shows: the column-based pipeline is the central screen, every deal prompts a next action, and follow-ups never fall through the cracks. It is the tool most likely to win over a sales team reluctant to adopt software. And that criterion is decisive, because a CRM that salespeople refuse to fill in is worthless.
HubSpot is a platform: CRM, marketing emails, landing pages, forms, chat, customer service, CMS. The coherence of the whole is its strength, one contact database feeds everything. The trade-off: more concepts to master, heavier administration, and the need for a real tool owner internally (or an integrator) to extract value.
AI in 2026
Both have invested heavily. HubSpot deploys Breeze across the entire platform: AI agents (prospecting, customer service), scoring, content generation, report assistants. Pipedrive stays focused on sales: sales assistant, AI-assisted emails, AI-generated reports from the first plan.
In plain terms: if cross-functional AI (marketing + sales + service) is your criterion, HubSpot has a structural lead. If you want AI that helps your reps without paying for a platform, Pipedrive delivers the essentials for far less.
When NOT to choose each
Do not choose Pipedrive if:
- your growth relies on inbound marketing (content, nurturing, lead scoring). You will end up buying external tools and losing data unity;
- you want an integrated customer portal / after-sales service;
- you need a free plan to build internal buy-in before investing.
Do not choose HubSpot if:
- you will only use the pipeline: sooner or later you will pay platform pricing for 20% of its value;
- your budget is tight and the team is growing: the per-seat cost at Professional stings with every hire;
- nobody internally will own the tool. A misconfigured HubSpot is an expensive, empty CRM;
- your real need is French-style business management: quotes, invoicing, VAT, 2026 e-invoicing compliance. Neither HubSpot nor Pipedrive is a French invoicing tool. See our comparison French vs American CRM.
The Batemark verdict, by profile
- Sales team of 2 to 15 reps, classic B2B cycle: Pipedrive Growth. Best efficiency-to-price ratio in this matchup, fast adoption, predictable budget.
- SMB investing in inbound marketing (content, inbound leads): HubSpot, starting with the free CRM + Starter, upgrading to Professional only when the use cases clearly justify it.
- Still undecided: start with the question, not the tool. Where will your customers come from in 18 months? Outbound prospecting: Pipedrive. Inbound marketing: HubSpot. Both equally: HubSpot, for data unity.
- Your process fits neither (field operations, French invoicing, custom workflows): compare with our commercial CRM overview, the Pipedrive and HubSpot pages, and the 7 classic CRM selection mistakes.

Frequently asked questions
HubSpot or Pipedrive: which one is cheaper?
For small teams, Pipedrive wins. Its Lite plan starts around EUR 14 per user per month (billed annually), with no setup fees. HubSpot Sales Starter is close (roughly EUR 20 per user per month), but the jump to Professional (roughly EUR 90-100 per user per month, plus mandatory paid onboarding) is far steeper. At equivalent feature levels, Pipedrive generally remains the more affordable option. Pricing verified July 2026.
Is the HubSpot free CRM enough for an SMB?
For centralizing contacts and initial deals, yes. It is the best free CRM on the market. But limitations appear quickly: capped automations, minimal reporting, HubSpot branding on some tools. The free tier is a great entry point, as long as you accept its purpose: guiding you toward paid plans.
Does Pipedrive offer marketing features like HubSpot?
Partially. Pipedrive offers email campaigns as an add-on and sequence automations, but it remains a sales-first CRM. HubSpot natively covers marketing (landing pages, nurturing, ads), sales, and customer service on a single data layer. That is its real differentiator, and what justifies the price when you actually use multiple hubs.
Are HubSpot and Pipedrive GDPR-compliant?
Both provide the expected compliance tools (consent management, deletion, DPA) and EU data hosting options. They are nonetheless American vendors: if data sovereignty is a strong requirement for you, also compare European CRM solutions like Axonaut or Sellsy.
Can you easily migrate from one to the other?
Yes, in both directions. Both vendors provide native imports, and dedicated migration tools exist. The real cost is not technical but human: retraining the team and rebuilding automations and reports. That is why it pays to choose well from the start, or to get expert guidance.
